makeover

nightstand edition

so i bought this little nightstand from a thrift store for 20 bucks! yes it was quite a steal, but the paint was horrible. it was very shiny, and everything i set on it stuck to it. so i knew i'd end up repainting it. well finally after a few months, i was sick of it. i've recently fallen inlove with pastel colors i just think they are so refreshing. so i went to lowes and picked out a beautiful light blue color by valspar, the Seaside Retreat collection.

so after sanding the nightstand down for HOURS with first 60 grit and then 120 grit, thank god we had a power sander, it would have been impossible without it. we ended up with this. she was already looking better.

now came the FUN part! i painted and painted. and then i was inlove! she came out looking wonderful!

i cant for the life of me get the actual color to show up on my camera of the nightstand, but its a light blueish green. sort of a cross between this picture and the picture of the paint in the can.

i ♥ the way it turned out though. definitely plan on doing more little projects like this whenever i find something that could use a little spiffing up!

and these are just a few things that i have decorating the top of the nightstand. the cutsie little birdie i bought at the dollar store, for you guessed it 1 dollar!! i just couldn't say no.

Luna!♥

we got a new pup her name is Luna. she's a chocolate lab and has super cute huge puppy paws, and big beautiful green eyes. she was born on july 02 2010, so that makes her almost 9 weeks old, and she's also a cancer just like ella! :) she's really great pup, she wont jump up on ella, or nip at her like so many puppies do, but only likes to fallow her around everywhere she goes. and ella adores her, she loves to share her food and toys with her, and loves petting her. as for me and nevin, it's sort of kind of like having a newborn baby all over again, of course not all that much work, but waking up in the middle of the night for potty breaks and all. were in the process of crate/potty training her, and shes doing great, she's had one peepee accident in the house and that's it. and she does fairly well in her crate, of course she'd rather be out and lounging around the room with everyone, and that's our goal but for now the crate will do. we took her swimming yesterday in our pool, and although you could tell she wasn't all too confident in swimming, she was loving it! and i have no doubts that she'll be a total water dog. :) were really enjoying her, and are super happy to have a new member in our family.

now introducing little miss luna ♥

also after we'd decided on the name luna i thought i'd look up the exact meaning, and i have to say its absolutely PERFECT!

Origin of the name Luna:

"Directly derived from the Latin luna (the moon). She was the Roman mythological goddess of the moon and is equated with the Greek Selene. Luna can be used as an astrological name for those born under the sign of Cancer, which is ruled by the moon."

oh poo.

well we thought we were done with formula but i guess not.

we had started ella on cows milk right around her first birthday but after about 3 days of her drinking milk instead of formula she started having horrible diarrhea, and would poop between 4-6 times a day, all of them being runny. her butt was bright red and had welts all over it. i couldn't think of anything else that it would be since the only thing we'd changed was giving her milk. we'll i'd bought a little container of formula, and after the first night giving her formula again that next day her poops were getting back to normal, she'd only pooped twice instead of the 4-6 times that she'd been for the past couple days.. so yeah, were back on formula for now. it's not that big of a deal since she hardly drinks much at all, only 2 bottles a day. but about a week before her 15 month doctors appointment i'm going to give the cows milk a try again and see what happens. and if she cant tolerate it again i'm going to be bringing it up at her appointment.

if anything i'd thought that the cows milk would make her a little constipated, but it was the total opposite.. i don't know, if anyone has any advice or knows what might be wrong please let me know.

just a little update

since i haven't posted a blog in a little while and i have some time to myself now that ella is finally asleep, i thought it'd be a good time for a little update on ella and life. :)

not much has gone on though so i doubt this post will be anything too exciting.

so ella had her 1 year check up on july 26th. she's 20 pounds 8 ounces which is in the 25th percentile for weight, and she's 31 inches long which is in the 95th percentile for length. the doctor said she's about the height of a 17 month old, CRAZY. she's really starting to get hair now and i'm able to put a little clip in her hair without a headband to attach it to. :P now i just cant wait to be able to put it up in a little pony tail or pig tails. she can say mom, mommy, baby, belly button, dad, daddy and she's said a few other words here are there but those are the ones she uses the most, besides her constant blabbing and making up her own language which it truly does sound like. lets see, what else, she's running now, well walking really fast. and she doesn't believe in crawling anymore. she's TOTALLY off formula. she actually had her last bottle of it last night, and as great as it was to finally be done with it, it was sort of bitter sweet, as weird as that might sound. she's eating 2 bottles a day now, once in the morning when she wakes up and once right before bed. she eats all kinds of table and finger foods now days, which is nice, just being able to feed her what were eating. it's still hard for me to believe she's 1 now, it doesn't seem like it's been a year already, i still look at her and see my little baby, and i know it will always be that way.

it's really humid here now days and i'm so excited to start seeing all the fall/winter things starting to come out in stores, yesterday i made ella's first pair of leg warmers and they are sooo cute, i cant wait for her to start wearing them!.. oh and halloween is coming up, i wonder what i'll dress ella up as this year..

night ♥
